Psychic Detective Yakumo Main Characters
There are many characters that make up the cast of Psychic Detective Yakumo. Each character has its own personality, and while they might remind you of other characters you’ve seen in other shows, each one is likeable in their own right. Some have said that the characters lack imagination and seem a bit repetitive, but the popularity of this show is unarguable. Whether you love it or love to hate it, the show seems to be one that brings watchers back again and again.
Another of the main characters besides Yakumo Saitou is Haruka Ozawa. She is also a college student at the university and comes to Saitou, asking him for help in saving her friend from spirits that possess her.
At first she is skeptical of him, until he gives her messages from the twin sister she lost at the age of 7 to an accident that she blamed herself for. She becomes kind of a love interest of Yakumo Saitou although he does his best to not show emotion towards her which can cause a frustration for those watching. Her interest in him is more apparent than his is for her. She isn’t afraid of his gift; she encourages it and even thinks that spirits and ghosts are beautiful. She is a cute little character that is easy to like, although she tends to come across a bit dumb at times.
Psychic Detective Yakumo Supporting Characters
Kazutoshi Gotou is a detective who has known Yakumo Saitou a long time and even saved him from being killed by his mother years ago. Whenever there is supernatural goings on in his cases, he calls on Saitou to help.
Yuutarou Ishii is a detective that works for Gotou and has a crush on Haruka. He is a bit of a coward and kind of silly, but makes a good “odd couple” with Gotou. Makoto Hijikata is a reporter whose father is a high standing official in the police department. She helps Haruko and Saitou with their investigations and even ends up getting possessed by a ghost for a length of time.
In Psychic detective Yakumo, Nao Saito and Isshin Saito are the cousin and uncle of Yakumo Saitou. Nao has a keen sense of the feelings and emotions of those around her and is deaf. She lives with her father Saito in a Buddhist temple. Isshin is a father figure to Saitou and wears a red lens to make Yakumo Saitou feel more at ease with his gift. He names Yakumo Saitou when he was born.
Miyuki Nanase is one of the evil villians. He is very loyal to and works for Yakumo Saitou’s biological father and twisted, strong and well…just plain evil.
All of the characters have their places in the storyline and despite the views of some; there is a part for them that works within the storyline. Most of the stories focus on Saitou but with all of these cast mates, the stories have a bit of depth to them, and characters that you love to hate or make fun of or like. There are other characters as well, such as Haruka’s mother who tries to play matchmaker at one point, and various others who round out the storylines. Psychic detective Yakumo is a show worth giving a try. You’ll either love it or not, but I can almost guarantee that if you try it, you won’t be able to watch just one.
